Germany : Cotton market in motion - Textile News Germany

The market showed increasing recovering tendencies during the reporting week. Prices went up as the New York cotton futures rose, however, stayed firm at the origin. The trade registered demand for prompt delivery until the end of the year and beyond that in 2010.Although, for larger contracts an agreement on an acceptable price level was lacking.

Nevertheless, the mills apparently have supply gaps to be covered. Therefore, there was lively interest on the market with an upward movement. At the extra fine market significant transactions for Far East as well as Europe were registered.

Contracts were closed for West African and East African cotton, CIS and Greece for prompt delivery as well as Brazil cotton for the 4th quarter, too.

The extra fine market registered sales for GIZA 86 und 88, US Pima and Israel Pima for prompt delivery and 1st and 2nd quarter 2010.

Vietnam : Handicrafts should stick to uniqueness – Expert - Textile News Vietnam

Ms. Setsuko Okura, a handicrafts specialist stated that there is need for Vietnamese handicraft industry to concentrate on the uniqueness of the products in order to have competitive stand in the lucrative Japanese market.

Low-cost Chinese handicraft items, are the competitors of Vietnamese handicrafts in Japanese market, with whom the Vietnamese products can’t compete in terms of cost, she added, while, addressing a seminar held in HCM City by the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Viet Nam Trade Promotion Agency in collaboration with the ASEAN-Japan Centre.

The Japanese market imports handicraft products from a number of countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, India, and Spain. Ms. Setsuko termed the Japanese market as a market hungry for handicrafts as Japanese people are highly affectionate about art and creativity.

These people like to buy Vietnamese hand-made embroidery products and hoped that the Vietnamese craftsmen will conserve and develop its traditional hand-made products to compete in the international market.

Further, she underscored the need to know the customs, consumption habits and market demands of Japan, and to be aware of the delivery deadlines, import regulations as well as Japanese industrial standards.

Along with this, quality of the product is also significant. Vietnamese handicraft exporters should also enclose catalogues in Japanese language together with English, while selling their products, suggested a representative from the ASEAN-Japan centre.

Bangladesh : BGMEA aims to improve quality of readymade garments - Apparel News Bangladesh

Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has targeted to improve the quality of apparel products in its member factories. In this regard, the Quality Improvement Program (QIP) has been launched by BGMEA in association with German Technical Cooperation (GTZ).

Production quality of around 20 factories will be improved in two stages under this program. Wastage of products can be reduced by producing more improved quality products, even if Bangladesh apparels are recognized for quality maintenance, said Mr. Abdus Salam Murshedy, BGMEA President, while speaking at launching ceremony.

QIP will provide assistance to improve the quality of products, attain better productivity, decrease operating costs and accelerate operating process. The association will provide help to their member factories in terms of both, productivity and quality, said the BGMEA chief.

It will also prop up the factories to achieve competitive stand in the market. It has been expected that good quality garment products of the country will allow it to fetch a better market share in the global market.

On the ceremony of the 63rd Annual Tony Awards which went on in the Radio City Music Hall of New York. The majority of Hollywood hot stars all spare time to attend this great awards show.
